Amusing MySelf

A-muse v. To entertain in an agreeable, pleasing way;to make mildly or temporarily happy.

Just a little rambling.

Since I did absolutely no knitting today, it’s just way too hot. I thought I’d just ramble on a bit about nothing cause I’m actually bored and could be doing knitting. I’m just being lazy today and don’t really want to do anything that will cause me to sweat.

I watched Anne of Green Gables the sequel today. I just love reading or watching DVD’s of anything historical. Yea I know life was hard back then but times were so much simplier and their values meant so much to them Not that I don’t enjoy todays modern conveniences, I love the internet and cell phones but sometimes I yearn for simple things. Anyway I love the story of Anne’s life and how she says she doesn’t love Gilbert but you can tell b the things she says and does that she just doesn’t realize that he is the only one for her. Such a romantic movie but hey that’s just my opinion.

Ok on to my next subject. I have always wanted to be a test knitter for a designer but have never ben lucky enough to find anyone who needs a tester. I really have no idea where I would even begin to look for someone who needs a tester anyway. I have no desire at this time to design patterns- maybe in the future but I would still like to contribute to the knitting world in someway no matter how big or small.

One last thing. It is my goal at sometime in my life to own a spinning wheel and make yummy sock yarn but for now I use a drop spindle which I actually haven’t even been using lately I’m about out of roving anyway and right now don’t have a source for getting more and all my money anyway is going towards my trip in August. I refuse to visit the yarn shop in the next county over. The owner is a former friend who did something to a current friend that I didn’t agree with but that is a long story and not something I care to think on any longer.I can’t at this time shop from the internet but I’m ok with that. I’ll come up with a solution to my delimma I usually always do.

Ok enough of my ramblings back to your knitting and have a nice day.

Dish Rag Tag

When I signed up for Dish Rag Tag, there was a box to click if you wanted to be a team captain.  I didn’t clicked it, mostly because I thought that there would be people willing to assume that leadership role.  However shortly before the teams were announced Friday, I found out that I had been named a team captain. I was a little surprised yet honored that Emily chose me to be a captain. I will do my best to a good team captain and live up to the responsibility.  I think this one will be a blast, and those members of my team who have shown up on the forum are already plotting strategies.  Not everyone has shown up there, but it’s early yet.  If you’re on my team, please stop by our team fourm (you should have gotten email with a link) and let us know you’re there and are still planning on racing with us. We are Team #13 and have decided on calling ourselves Lucky 13. Do you think Lady Luck will be with and help us to be the winners? I sure hope. Keeping fingers crossed.

My primary goal for this exchange and race is to have fun with it.  I will be test knitting a cloth to make sure my chosen pattern meets the required dimensions and to work out any glitches that might arise.

Do you think my NSFY might like a knitted wash/dish cloth as a wee extra giftie?  If so do her color preferences extend to dish cloths? HM something to ponder.

It’s a sock!

zig zag sock

I’m excited to show you my first sock. Woo Hoo. Yea I know it doesn’t take much to get me excited. LOL  Of course I still have to knit the mate but I couldn’t cast on the other without sharing this one. I made a few mistakes but you can’t tell so I’m not worried and since it is for me I don’t care anyway. I love how this worked up and it feels nice on. You can’t see the zig zag pattern real well in this picture but I will show it better once I have a pair.

It’s made from Panda Cotton. I wasn’t sure how it would knit since it has elastic but the stretch was no problem at all. What I was surprised at was that the yarn has a tendency to split. So I had to watch it carefully but other than that I really like it.

Now I just need to get me sock blockers. I tried making on from a hanger( i found the info on here some where but forget where) But let me tell ya it wasn’t as easy as it sounds. I think I would much rather have one of wood anyway. Any Volunteers to send me one. LOL  I’ll have to see if I can get DH to make me one.

Friendship Frogs

Friendship frogs

I would like to introduce Frankie, Freddie and Filbert(Filbie for short). While reading another blog yesterday, Wild Yarn. I saw that she had posted a pic of a cute little frog that she made and she also posted the link to the pattern. So of course I just had to check it out. I have to say I love these little guys and they worked up so fast! and were so fun . I can easily make more (and I will). However I enlarged the pattern a bit for a bigger frog.

Now I will be sending Frankie(yellow and green) and Freddie(green and purple) off to new homes with my friends Kathie and Donnley so that when we can’t be together they will think of me when they look at their frog.

Sock progress

My sock

Well here it is my progress on the zig zag sock. I am really pleased with how it is turning out. I’m doing quite well so far. I’ve made no mistakes this time around. I paid close attention to what I am doing. I am really looking forward to getting this pair finished. Of course this is on my first one. I still have to knit the mate. Crossing fingers and hoping all goes well with both socks.

I just had to share a picture of my honey helping me wind up a skein of yarn into a ball. Isn’t he adorable? I sure think so.

A Sneak Peak

Goodie Bag(pic was bigger Than I wanted in my post so you’ll have to click the link to see it.)

As promised in an earlier post here is a sneak peak at a few of the goodies the winner will receive from my Name that Fairie(tab at top of page). Only two days left to enter.

The yarn is Peaches-N-Creme cotton hand dyed by me. In the colorway Sweet Dreams. The Starry Stitch Markers were made by me. I still have a couple things I want to add but those will just have to be surprises.

Good mail day!

Yarn and Candy

Look what I got in the mail! A fellow knitter and blogger Emily sent me some yarn. It is Socks that Rock Yarn by Blue Moon Fibers Arts in colorway Pucks Mischeif. I love the mix of colors. Also encluded in the package was a Violet Crumble Candy bar because Emily says”You should never mail yarn witout candy, It’s some kind of law”LOL .

Mr Knowledge( 8 year old Son) has already eaten the candy bar. I tried to hide it but he found it and it’s hard to say no to them when they give that sad puppy dog look.

Thanks so much Emily You Rock!

A little Rant

Back in April I joinned a stitch marker swap. I received my partners name and then went to work making my stitch markers. I mailed them out and guess what 3 weeks later the package arrived empty. Someone else got my markers and my partner got an empty package. So I went to work making another set and the mailed them out at the same time I mailed out my Knitters Treat swap package. The Knitters Treat package arrived two weeks later but the Stitch markers that I mailed out one month ago have yet to arrive. Now my partner from that swap doesn’t believe that I actually mailed them out and has reported me to the swap hostess. So I have once again (for the third time) set to work on another set of markers and dropped them in the mail today. I have no idea what has happened to the last set but I honestly did mail them. I have no control over the U.S Postal system but it sure seems that they really don’t like me.And now they may have caused me to be put on a bad swappers list of course I have not actually heard from the swap hostess so I don’t know for sure that is the case. But this does upset me because I always do my best to keep up with my swaps and if I am not able to do so I always let the hostess know. What’s a girl to do when the Postal system doesn’t cooperate.

Going Camping

A camping we wil go, Hi Ho The Dairy OH, A camping we will go.

My family and I have decided to give camping a try this summer. It will be our first time. We are going to use a tent. So this will be an interesting experience. We’ve never been confined in such a small space together for 2 days. We may just be ready to kill each other by the time it is all over.

Salt Fork State Park is our destination. The park has alot to offer so I’m sure everyone will find something to do.

Little P is looking forward to going swimming. He is like a FISH when it comes to water.I’m sure he wont want to leave the beach area at all this weekend.

Arty(Dh will kill me if he knows I called him that-LOL) plans to go fishing. Of course I’m sure that the whale(wink wink) he hooks will put up a huge fight.:p

Big B -well who knows what he wants to do. He’s a teenager and I don’t think he himself has any idea what he wants to do.

Our camp site has electric but what good will that do me if I’m in a tent.Which I have never before slept in.I wish I had an air mattress but alas I do not. My poor back will suffer for sure.

We’ve got so much to do to get ready for the trip.I don’t know what foods to take or what cloths- well swim suits I know are a must. Then we’ve got to pack the sunsreen the bug repellent and oh so much more.

Well wish me luck and I’ll be sure to take lots of pics so everyone can see our experience.

Once again I have postponed my sock knitting adventure. I just don’t seem to be able to knit a single sock. I have unraveled the Zig Zag sock I was knitting with Panda Cotton. I guess I just was not paying enough attention to what I was doing because I lost track of what row I was knitting and like a dummy I missed placed my counter and I thought I would be able to keep track of what row I was on without it. Boy was I wrong with a capital W. I knew better but sometimes I don’t always listen to what my instincts tell me. Well lesson learned. Never again try to knitt socks without keeping track!!! But don’t worry I have not let this deter me from casting on again and knitting that sock. I will have a pair knitted before the end of summer!

Gifts for baby.

I spent the day making baby gifts. One of my cousins is having a baby shower on Saturday and since I always make gifts instead of buying them I knew  I had to make stuff for the new baby.  First I made a washcloth, bib and socks.

Baby Stash

Then I made a little Soft-N-Silky. It’s a little comfort blankie that about 12×12 and have soft fleece on one side and silky fabric on the other side. Babies like to rub it against their cheeks.

I made a  burp pad too and I am also working on a receiving blanket to go with it and will have to get pics when I am done.Burp Pad

Burp PadI just love making baby gifts. It’s fun and so easy to come up with ideas. Beside they make up in no time.

I also made something for myself while I was at it. pinwheel

A pinwheel cloth I found on Abigail’s blog. It made up really quick. I made it with Peaches -n- Cream cotton I dyed myself. I call it Tropical Island. I just love the bright colors.

BTW my hand is healing nicely. The burn no longer hurts and is slowly fading. Thanks for asking after me.

Be sure to stop by my other blog Ruby June’s(link in blog roll)to checkout my handbags and other items I am making.

Enjoy your day and Happy Knitting.

I am not happy I have a burn on my hand thanks to my teenage son.He was cooking spaghetti for supper tonight and put the serving spoon to close to the burner since it was a plastic spoon it of course melted the handle. Not know that the handle was hot I picked it up and received a nice little ouchie.

This of course put a serious damper on my knitting because I am right handed and that just happens to be the hand that is burnt. I was in the process of knitting this.

Zig Zag socks

It is a pattern called Zig Zag socks. And my first pair.I am using Panda Cotton in a color called Fall herbs. It is one of the 2 colors of sock yarn that I happen to have. I am really pleased with how the socks are working up. I am excited to share my progress with you. Of course that has been slowed down but I will keep at I refuse to let a little pain slow me down.

Random Thoughts for today.

Can You Say Soap?

My friend Kathie(who does not have a blog so I can’t link to her) is a vendor at a flea market near her house every weekend and she got some really great bargains from another vendor who was going out of business for like pennies. Anyway she gave me some things and one of tthem was this bag of soaps.

bag a soap

There are 14 bars of saop in this bag. I wont need to buy soap for months. I was happy to get the bag but then it got me to wondering- Is she trying to tell me something? LOL

More Yarn Envy.

Rhonda told me I might not want to visit her blog yesterday and of course you know I had to because I’m the type of person that if you tell me not to do something well then I have to just that. But I do have my limits on those things cause if ya tell me to go jump off a bridge then I most certainly will not. (Big Cheesy Grin)

But anyway back to Rhonda- I visited and had to have a mop to wipe up the big puddle of drool. She had to show off all her yummy sock yarn. I so loved looking at it all. But I think my favorite was Sophie’s Toes Sock Yarn called Grandma’s Blueberry Pie.Boy all this yarn is making me hungry with such delicious names.

Fairie Delight

Lots of contest entries are coming in now for my Name that Fairie contest(which now has it’s own page). I see a few I really like but I’m keeping a tight lip on what ones. I may have to have the boys help with choosing. Everyone is really coming up with good suggestions. Keep ’em comming.

The goody bag is starting to fill up. I picked up a few more things to add to it today but for now thats a surprise. Maybe I’ll give ya a sneak peak later in the week.

Tea Panties

I came across The Daily Knitter last night while surfing and found a pattern for Tea Panties. What you ask are Tea Panties- well I can just imagine what you are thinking cause I myself thought the same thing. No they are not undies you put on tea bags and they are not undies made from tea bags. But trust me once you see them you’ll find that it is really a very clever idea. So go see exactly what Tea Panties are.

Well til next time. Have a nice day and happy knitting.

Yarn Envy!

I’m gonna do a little whinning so if ya don’t want to hear ya don’t need to read any farther.

I ‘ve been doing lots of blog reading lately and seeing all this yummy sock yarn and boy am I envoius. My sock yarn stash consists of four whole skeins. Yep you read it right only four. Of course it would help if I had a yarn store near by but No it is not to be. I really can’t order online either cause I don’t have any credit cards, Thanks to DH but thats a whole other story we wont get into. Hee Hee.

I see Emily has this Yummy Chocolate Covered Kisses Yarn and then I visted Monica and wow what stash of sock yarn she has.Next I decided to visit with Karen and even she has wonderful sock yarn and is knitting some great socks for her sock pal. Finally I ended my visit with Abigail who always has socks on the needles.

I think I must be the only one who has not knitted socks and has very little sock yarn.I so love looking at all the socks everyone is knitting though. So I guess I’ll just had to keep reading and drooling over everyone elses sock yarns unless some one wants to take pity on this poor yarnless sole and send me their leftovers .LOL

Hope you have a nice day and enjoy your knitting.
